Water that gives Life.

Lydia is a loving mother who lives in Olkutoto village, located in Kenya. She was married to a man who was abusive towards her family and often threatened and intimidated her. One day, he packed up and left her with the responsibility of being the sole provider for her family.

Alone and scared, Lydia wanted nothing more than for her children to have a good life, where they could hope for a future. Determined, she worked hard to bring in income for her family, and before she got connected with The Hope Venture, she would travel an entire day to get water for her children, though it wasn’t clean. She knew it wasn’t ideal, but it was the only option they had.

That’s when we stepped in with our partners. Our Kenya Water and Sanitation Project provides clean water for Lydia’s family through a filtration system. Her family now has access to clean water, which isn’t just a basic necessity; it’s a lifeline.

It doesn’t just give them healthier lives; it reduces their expenses, so Lydia doesn’t have to spend an entire day walking for clean water; she can spend time being a mom and earning a living.

Lydia now has hopes of building a permanent house so her children can have a better place to sleep. She wants her children to grow up with an education, and she hopes to help other villages around her have clean water and sanitation. She can already see the ways that the water project has transformed her life, and can do the same for others.
